Board Advisory
Monica provides governance advisory services to diverse not-for-profits and charities, with an emphasis on proactive approaches to board effectiveness and capacity-building.
A true governance enthusiast since she joined her first not-for-profit board in 2009, Monica has a particular interest in approaches to developing healthy board-staff relationships, and in emergent not-for-profit governance models that acknowledge and aim to overcome the limitations of traditional policy governance.
Her services include:
comprehensive governance audits, to ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory obligations, as well as to help clients identify and manage other governance-related risks.
developing, reviewing and advising on terms of reference, policies, procedures, and guidelines that can support boards to meet their fiduciary duties and strengthen organizational governance.
providing general counsel to boards navigating complex, multi-faceted legal challenges with significant financial, reputational, and strategic implications for their organizations. Monica has also supported not-for-profit boards in crisis to manage crisis communication, stakeholder engagement and public relations.
Organizations also regularly seek Monica’s support to review and evolve their governance models in a manner that reflects their operational realities, resources, capacities and needs.
